The Beauty of Reformed Worship

We are committed to worship that is Reformed according to the Scriptures. Historically, such worship (or covenant service) is simple and beautiful, reverent and joyful. As our Lord taught us, “God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth” (John 4:24).

We include in worship only those elements that God has revealed to us (Exod. 20:4)—namely, the reading and preaching of the Word (1 Tim. 4:13); the offering of prayers to God (Acts 2:42); the singing of psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs (Eph. 5:19); the collection of tithes and offerings (1 Cor. 16:1); and the administration of the sacraments of baptism (Matt. 28:18–20) and the Lord’s Supper (1 Cor. 11:23–26).

  • We observe the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper on the first and third Lord’s Days of the month during the morning service, while taking up a special diaconal offering that first Sunday.

  • We use the Trinity Psalter Hymnal to sing metrical versions of the Psalms, as well as “hymns of praise that respond to the full scope of divine revelation” (Directory for Worship).

In ordering these elements, we emphasize the sovereign initiative of the Lord as the One who calls us into his presence, cleanses us from sin, consecrates us to himself, communes with us at his table, and commissions us for service.
